Cooperative Community Involvement Program
(CCIP)

 
 
 
Program Description:   CCIP consists of a series of workshops to strengthen the role of parents in their child's education. 
 
Workshop Description
  • Navigate the Special Education Process

                Assist parents of students that have special learning needs.

 

  • Understanding School Improvement Initiatives

                Parents will gain an understanding of the School

                Improvement process and how parents can work

                together with the local school staff to successfully
                implement and monitor the plan.

 

  • Understanding Testing Requirements

                Parents will gain an understanding of federal mandated

                tests and how they relate to student performance.

 

  • School Funding (How school budgets are funded)

                Parents will gain an understanding of how the budget

                process works and learn effective strategies for lobbying
                for school funding.

 

  • Legislatively Speaking

                 Parents will gain an understanding of how education

                 laws move through the legislative process and strategies
                 for working effectively with elected officials to improve
                 the resources available to schools.

 

  • Organizing a Formal Parent Group

                 Parents will gain information on how to start a formal

                 parent organization in their school and/or strengthen

                 your current organization.

                

  • Parent Support Services

                 Parents will gain knowledge on how to develop

                 a master educational plan for their child.  Parents
                 will come to embrace the importance of reviewing
                 and updating this plan throughout their child's
                 primary and secondary education.  We also

                 represent parents as an advocate on certain school

                 issues.

 

 

Expected Outcomes

The expected outcome over five years is a 30% increase in the number of parents involved in their child's education until graduation, 25% decrease in truancy and high school drop-out.
