Impacting Communities

Our Impact

Since 2005, NEVI has served parents, PTA's and Parent Action Teams, community groups and students in Prince George’s County, Maryland and the District of Columbia by providing academic support students require to successfully access the school curriculum.  NEVI worked closely with community groups such as the Community Public Awareness Council (CPAC) to develop academic programs for youth with run-ins with the criminal justice system.  The MIE Sew program is a STEM enrichment program designed to strengthen students’ math skills while learning fashion design.

CUP' N Learning

Our CUP'N Learning program has helped over five-thousand families since implementing in 2017.  CUP'N Learning provides tutoring, math and ELA enrichment programs for schools through our MIE Learning and PAL Writing curriculum, summer enrichment camps for the community, college prep workshops, and enriched family nights that bring families together through science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and math (STREAM) filled activities. CUP' N Learning has provided over 3000 families in the D.C. and Prince George's County metropolitan area with backpacks filled with school supplies. CUP' N Learning has also given over $8,000 in Scholarships to graduating seniors since 2018.

Tutoring

Under our tutoring services, we have helped 98% of our students grow at least proficient in math and 93% in Reading over the last five years. This data is based on the STARR and MAP assessment. We have also helped 100% of our high school students get into their top choice school by scoring at least a 1030 on the SAT, helping students prepare their admissions essay, and providing tutoring service throughout the school year.

MIE Sewing

MIE Sewing is a curriculum created, using common core standards, to math through sewing. We first launched the pilot at Friendship's Woodridge campus. The feedback from the principal, students, parents, and teachers, led to the program returning as a partnership in 2018. The 2018 PARCC Data of the students that we worked with at Friendship reflected that 70% of the MIE Sewing students scored a 4, 20% scored a 3, and the remaining 10 % scored a 2 in Math on PARCC. The great news about the PARCC data is that 100% of the students made a point gain on PARCC, i.e. the 10% that scored a 2 after completing the MIE Sewing program in 2018, scored a 1 the previous year. 90% of our students met all of the math outcomes and 100% of our students met all of the sewing outcomes.

Our MIE Sewing program has also help create over twenty kid entrepreneurs. The youngest, becoming a celebrity designer at the young age of 7, now 9 years old, has her own e-commerce store started during  our MIE Sewing summer camp five years ago.

A Word From The Community

Hey Mrs. Amber!

I wanted to thank you! Your study methods and other techniques helped me a lot my freshman year at Coppin State. These are my final grades; I thought I should share them with you! GPA: 3.79

Thank you.

Mrs. Amber,

We want to thank you for what you are doing with our daughter. She is in her room working hard on what you gave her. She loves working with you, and says that you make math fun for her. See you next week.

Mrs. George
